Bachelor of science in vascular ultrasound
Rush University offers a full-time vascular ultrasound program that can be completed in just 21 months.
As a student of the program, you'll spend your first three quarters in class, doing student laboratory work and observing patient examinations. Your final four quarters will offer the opportunity for you to perform vascular examination on patients under the direction of credentialed vascular sonographers at two or more vascular laboratories.
Upon graduation you will be eligible to sit for the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) certication exam.
Career opportunities for vascular sonographers
Vascular sonographers are responsible for taking patient history, performing appropriate patient tests using ultrasound and other technology, acquiring and analyzing the pertinent data, and preparing a report of the data and images for physician interpretation.
The U.S. Department of Labor job outlook for diagnostic medical sonographers is a 44% increase from 2010-2020, which is much higher than the average occupation at 14%.
